CISA World Sympoisum and Storytelling Festival:
Indigenous Voices, Ancient Trade Routes
A cultural exchange of Indigenous Storytellers from California, Oregon, Washington, Hawaii, and New Zealand
January 15 - 17, 2009

San Leandro Public Library Theater Center
300 Estudillo Avenue
San Leandro, California

Join us for the CISA World Symposium and Storytelling Festival: Indigenous Voices, Ancient Trade Routes. The current of creativity and survival of Native Peoples of the Western Hemisphere has been the movement of stories and resources across the vast oceans, rivers, and land routes.  We are proposing to follow these ancient routes from the Pacific to the western shores of the North American continent

As we explore these ancient routes we will seek the stories, songs, chants, and artifacts that link each of these Indigenous Peoples together.  Many of these routes are thousands of years old, but remain alive and vital to all Native People.

This international gathering of Indigenous storytellers, scholars and culture bearers from the west coast of North America to Hawaii and New Zealand will be presented at the San Leandro Public Library Theater in San Leandro, California. The symposium on Thursday and Friday, January 15- 16th  includes keynote addresses, panel discussions and other presentations.  The storytelling festival on Saturday, January 17th includes performances and an opportunity to have dinner with the storytellers and other presenters.
